TEHRAN An Iraian court will put back on the track a far-gone Tehran University hostel case, following a suit brought by former police chief of the capital who was himself held in the dock and later cleared under the charges of laxity during riots which engulfed the city in days of scuffles in last July.
Press reports said that the Tehran Imam Khomeini Justice Department on January 6 would hear charges brought by Brigadier Farhad Nazari against another former police chief, Davoud Soleimani and head of the Tehran University hostel, Mohammad Kazem Kouhi.
Nazari has indicted the two with libel, slander and inciting public opinion.
Press quoted an informed source as saying that the case had earlier been sent to the Revolutionary Court which was referred to General Court, under grounds the former court was incompetent to handle it.
The same source was also cited saying that the two had linked Nazari to "heavy charges" and called him "criminal", adding they had earlier tried to prevent the court from examining the case through exerting pressures.
The court tried Nazari and dozens of his subordinates under the charges that he had let police and plainclothesmen to enter university campus and beat up students.
He was finally exonerated from all charges.
The clashes erupted after students held protests over closure of a reformer newspaper, Salam. Three people were killed and several injured during the riots.
