TEHRAN Secretary General of the Islamic Association of Researchers, Mohammad-Sadeq Mahfouzi said here Monday that President Mohammad Khatami's speech to a group of college students on December 6 was not at all a compromise with opposing ideas.
Mahfouzi told IRNA that he believed the president had sided with rationality and, while being quite aware of the ongoing conditions, had acted in the interest of the national security.
Many others including journalists may lack such a sharp attitude, he said, adding that not all views about responsibilities of the president were raised out of goodwill.
Mahfouzi said it is unfair for the so-called critics of the government' to attack the government by raising the economic problems facing the people.
He said the critics had better adopt proper strategies for the country's economic development and offer them to the government for consideration.
Elsewhere in the interview, Mahfouzi said that if proponents and opponents of reforms, who share many commonalties, get together and lead the country towards tranquility, there would certainly be greater turnout in next presidential elections.
Concluding his remarks, Mahfouzi said it is possible to achieve reforms in the Judiciary and steps taken so far in this respect are vivid examples of the development of the Judiciary.
