BERLIN Baden-Wuerttemberg Premier Erwin Teufel has said he is in favor of a bid by his state's capital, Stuttgart, to stage the summer Olympics in 2012.

"To host a sporting event of such importance is a unique experience for a region," Teufel told Wednesday's Stuttgarter Nachrichten daily.

"I would fully support a bid."

Teufel said Stuttgart could offer "smarter ideas and better conditions" than rival bids.

The German State of Saxony and the Ruhr Valley region are also considering bids.

The German Olympic Committee is expected to make a decision on a German bid next year.
