BOROUJERD- Majlis Deputy Alaeddin Boroujerd said here Wednesday some 32,000 agriculture engineers are unemployed in the country while stressing that radical changes must be introduced in the agriculture sector. Speaking in a ceremony to pay homage to the model farmers in Boroujerd, the representative of this city in the Parliament hoped that the establishment of the new Agricultural Jihad Ministry would help officials opt for more effective measure in settling the existing drawbacks. He said the shortcomings in the agricultural sector was the main factor responsible for the migration of the youth from the villages to the cities. Also present in the ceremony was Hossein Amiri, director of the Boroujerd Agriculture Department who said the government failed to achieve its objective in thee agricultural sector during the first and second five-year economic development plans. The agricultural sector is currently the main source generating 27 percent of the gross domestic product, one fourth of the job opportunities and one third of the non-oil exports, he said adding the development of the agricultural sector was possible just through removing the problems facing the farmers. The increase in the demand props up the supply while saying that the per capita consumption of foodstuffs in the country was estimated to be about 680kg. He said due to the rampant unemployment problem facing the country, many job opportunities may be created in the agricultural sector through adopting effective guidelines and measures. (IRNA)
