TEHRAN Vice Chairman of the Judicial Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Ebrahim Amini said here Saturday that the president should be provided with the necessary means to supervise over the proper performance of the Constitution rather than other branches of power.

A spokesman for the Judiciary in a recent talk with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported that a plan is under study for the formation of the constitutional court by the Judiciary.

Elaborating on the constitutional court, Amini told IRNA that given the fact that in view of the majority of Majlis deputies it is the president who is responsible for supervising over the good performance of the Constitution, therefore, he should be provided with the required means in this connection.

"It is in this way that the president can accomplish his responsibility," he said.

Amini said that according to the Article 113 of the Constitution, status of the president is higher than the heads of other branches of power.

Furthermore, he added, the president is being considered as the number two official in the country and, therefore, is responsible for the performance of the Constitution and should supervise over its proper performance as well.
