Philippines Slams Door on Estrada's Foreign Trip

MANILA The Philippines said on Monday it would bar deposed president Joseph Estrada from leaving to seek eye treatment in the United States, saying he should remain in the country to face investigation for alleged corruption. Justice Secretary Hernando Perez and other senior government officials said at the weekend that Estrada's proposed U.S. trip to undergo eye surgery might be a ploy by him to evade prosecution before local courts, Reuters reported.
