TEHRAN Former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani here Tuesday expressed concern over the power struggle between political factions in the country and warned that the enemies sometimes exploit such disputes.

"Regrettably, our society is suffering from a sort of nontransparency seen in various opinions and attitudes," Rafsanjani, now chairman of the Expediency Council which has the final say on legislative discrepancies, told several members of the Assembly of Experts.

"The committed elements of the Islamic Revolution should not allow the factional and political bickerings to overshadow the very principle of the revolution," he said.

Rafsanjani said that the Islamic Republic is proud of the 1979-Islamic Revolution which toppled the monarchy and installed an Islamic government.

The Islamic Revolution has passed many crises including terrorist schemes by certain grouplets, coups and the 1980-1988 war with next-door Iraq, he said.

He said that security will pave the way for economic recovery, encouragement of foreign investment, and will prevent capital flight.
