MANILA Philippine authorities on Wednesday freed six alleged communist and Muslim separatist guerrillas as part of efforts to restart stalled talks for a settlement to decades-old rebellions, a group representing the freed prisoners said as quoted by AFP. A man and a woman arrested six months ago on weapons charges in connection with an operation against the communist insurgents walked out of the city jail in the central city of Canlaon early Wednesday, said Marie Enriquez of the political prisoners watchdog Karapatan (human rights).
