SEOUL South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung apologized on Tuesday for the recent harsh crackdown by police on protesting Daewoo Motor workers which has undermined the Nobel Peace laureate's efforts to promote peaceful protests, Reuters reported. "I really regret what happened at Daewoo," President Kim told his cabinet. "The police should not use violence in any case." Police clubbed and beat protesting Daewoo workers last Tuesday, drawing heavy criticism from the public and the opposition party which forced the government to sack the police chiefs of Inchon and Pupyong.
