MANCHESTER, England Manchester United defender Jaap Stam is likely to miss the Netherlands's World Cup qualifier in Estonia on June 2 after tearing his hamstring during a testimonial match in Glasgow on Tuesday.

The central defender fell awkwardly toward the end of the first half of a benefit match in aid of Celtic defender Tom Boyd, which United won 2-0.

"Jaap has done his hamstring. It looks like a complete tear and he's struggling for Holland's game," said United Manager Alex Ferguson.

The injury is the second suffered by Stam in a stop-start season.

The 10.75 million pound ($15.32 million) signing from PSV Eindhoven missed five months of United's campaign between September and January with a troublesome Achilles problem, Reuters reported.

The 28-year-old, who has 38 international caps is a key part of his country's bid to reach the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea.

The Dutch are second in European qualifying Group 2 after six games, level on points with third-placed Portugal and three points behind the Republic of Ireland, who head the table.
