Intl. Red Cross Helps Bushehr Red Crescent

TEHRAN The International Red Cross has given some 200 thousand francs to the Bushehr Red Crescent Society, Head of the Red Crescent Society Relief Committee, Mohammad-Ja'far Alizadeh said on Saturday.

Alizadeh said the International Red Cross' assistance would be used to provide training for some 20,000 relief workers regarding the first aid services in critical conditions.

Part of the budget would be spent on purchase of equipment for the Bushehr Red Crescent Society.

He said his organization aimed to develop the public training so that in each Iranian family one member is sufficiently trained to provide others with the first aid services in time of occurrence of natural disasters.

He said the Red Crescent Society was charitable and free from any political move.

He expressed regret over poor training program in the Third World countries, adding, "In these countries disasters usually take place before the official adept effective preventive measures."

He said the people should be trained to properly act in time of the natural disasters.

He added Bushehr ranked first as for the death toll from road accidents in the last calendar year of Iran (ending March 20).
