Jenna Bush Has Driver's License Suspended, Is Fined for Underage Drinking
In two separate cases, a lawyer acting on behalf of 19-year-old Jenna Bush entered a plea of no contest to charges of underage drinking and trying to use another person's driver's license to obtain alcoholic beverages.
The legal age for consumption of alcoholic drinks in Texas, as in most of the United States, is 21.
The charges stem from two separate incidents. In May, records show Jenna Bush was observed attempting to buy alcohol at a local Mexican restaurant using someone else's driver's license. For that, a judge sentenced Bush to perform community service and pay 100 dollars in court fees.
Citing the violation at the restaurant, another judge toughened a penalty that had been assessed after an April incident.
Judge Elisabeth Earle suspended Bush's driver's license for 30 days and required her to pay a fine of 500 dollars stemming from a citation she received for underage drinking at a bar in the popular Sixth Street entertainment district.
Jenna's twin sister, Barbara, accompanied her to the Mexican restaurant in May and has already pleaded no contest to underage drinking stemming from that incident.
If Jenna Bush is caught a third time, she would automatically lose her driver's license for 90 days and could spend up to six months in jail under a zero-tolerance policy instituted by her father when he was Texas governor, AFP has quoted the Texas Department of Public Safety as saying.
