Iranian Team Ranks 2nd in World Chemistry Olympiad
The team competed with teams from 53 other countries in the Olympiad held in Bombay, India.
According to IRNA, the Chinese team finished in a tie for second place with Iran and the team from Russia ranked first. South Korea and the U.S. shared the third place.
Hossein Mirzaei, the director of the Young Researchers Club, told IRNA on Sunday that Shadi Rajabi and Sepehr Fadaei won gold medals and Ali-Asghar Mohammadi and Mona Fallah-Tafti won silver medals at the international competition.
Rajabi also stood first among female participants in the Olympiad and received a special prize, Mirzaei added.
The Islamic Republic of Iran ranked sixth in last year's Chemistry Olympiad.
Also, Iranian team ranked seventh in the World Biology Olympiad.
Meanwhile, three Iranian children won prizes at the 10th International Environment Painting Contest in Japan.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Center for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (CIDCYA) some 12,600 children from 56 countries took part in this contest.
The contest was sponsored by the Japanese World Peace and Environment Foundation with the cooperation of the United Nations Environment Office.
The jury of the festival selected 207 works from five age groups. Three of the works were by Iranian painters Sara Soleimani, Alireza Heidari and Sahar Rezvani. The Iranian children and young adults whose works were selected are all members of the Center for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.
The CIDCYA had entered 59 works of its members in the contest. The works focused on subjects such as "Let's Release the Earth", and "Preserve Forests, Skies and Beautiful Oceans for the Future".
All the works entered in the contest will be displayed in Japan and some other countries. Moreover, the works will be displayed at the Osaka Anthropology Museum in the future.
