TEHRAN -- An expert on Turkish affairs at the French Center for Studies and Research said that the Welfare Party should regain its status on Turkey's political arena.

Speaking in an interview with the French service of the IRIB, Semih Vaner stressed that banning the Welfare Party is tantamount to depriving the Turkish people of a party they trust.

Vaner said that banning the party is not a proper solution, as the party is a manifestation of the demand of the Turkish people to revive their Islamic identity.

In conclusion, the expert referred to the fact that the Turkish government has several times been condemned by the European Court of Human Rights for its human rights violations, saying that Turkish regime is far from being democratic.
