According to the NTV news network, the citizens of Istanbul attacked the warship with eggs. The warship is part of the U.S. Navy Sixth Fleet.

The NTV report added that police intervened to stop the protest and arrested twelve people.

This was the second time that Istanbul citizens have protested the presence of U.S. naval forces in Turkish territorial waters. The first protest was in 1968.
