TEHRAN -- Following recent negotiations, it was declared that the prominent Iranian musician, Alireza Mashayekhi, has eventually agreed to conduct Tehran Symphonic Orchestra (TSO). According to the Persian daily ****Aftab***, many candidates were earlier proposed as the prospective tso conductor including Iraj Sahbaie, Loris Cheknovarian, and Sa'id Sharifian. However, after long negotiation with the said candidates, Alireza Mashayekhi was eventually appointed as the new TSO conductor. Despite the preference of the Music Department to appoint Loris Cheknovarian as the new conductor, his prerequisite comprising a sufficient budget and continuous practice, could not be met. Cheknovarian presented successful performances during the 16th Fajr Music Festival when he was appointed as TSO guest conductor. The over-fatigued former TSO conductor, Fereidoun Nasseri, was appointed as the director-general of the Music Complex, once he resigned from his former post. Tehran Symphonic Orchestra is currently performing under the conduction of Iraj Sahbaie acting as the guest conductor. The pieces currently performed are composed by Alireza Mashayekhi. One should wait and observe the upcoming TSO changes and its new arrangement. It was declared on August 7, that reportedly the conductor of Tehran Symphonic Orchestra (TSO), Fereidoun Nasseri, would make his final bow to audiences, and that TSO would be in search of a new conductor. Nasseri had personally written the Islamic Guidance Ministry's (IGM) Music Department asking for a replacement, giving fatigue and old age as the reason. His request was made known while TSO members were on summer vacation. Iraj Sahbaie, residing in France, formerly acted as guest conductor of TSO for a gala performance on September 18-19, while Mashayekhi, and Cheknovarian had earlier cooperated with TSO as guest conductors. Nasseri should have been replaced much earlier, some have opined, but that Nasseri's role in renovating TSO should not be overlooked. The Tehran Symphonic Orchestra, with a background of half a century, has been under the direction of Roubik Gregorian, Rubin Saffarian, Heshmat Sanjari, Perviz Mahmoud, Morteza Hannaneh, Farhad Meshkat and a few other conductors.
