Earlier, the city of Qazvin was supposed to host the event but it was replaced by the capital after its sports facilities and gymnasiums were not approved by the representative of international wrestling federation (FILA), Rophy Martini, who is currently in Iran.

The veterans' tournament is to be held from July 14-16 and the World Men's Freestyle Wrestling Championships will be held here between September 2-5.
