TEHRAN German Economics Minister Werner Mueller said that Berlin will support Iran's membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organizations, IRNA reported from the German capital Berlin on Friday.

Mueller told a meeting between an Iranian delegation headed by Industries and Mines Minister Is'haq Jahangiri and representatives of German trade and industry that Germany welcomes the removal of tariff barriers and the establishment of other economic and trade facilities in Iran.

Mueller said that the German companies are eager to take part and invest in Iranian projects in the areas of aluminum, transportation systems, power plants, energy, copper and mineral resources.

Jahangiri advised German investors to participate in Iranian infrastructure projects.

Pointing to the success of President Mohammad Khatami's plan for political development at home and his policy of detente at the international and regional level, the Iranian minister described the plans and targets set by Iran's Third Five-Year Economic Development Plan.

Jahangiri said that the acceleration of privatization and the renovation of industries in Iran have provided an opportunity for foreigners to invest in Iran.

Several German industrialists and officials of well-known Germany companies attended the meeting.

Jahangiri, who was on a four-day official visit to Germany, also held talks with German Minister for Cooperation and Development Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul on Thursday.

Mueller assured the Iranian delegation that Germany will try to promote a trade agreement between Iran and the European Union.

During his trip to Germany, Jahangiri also held talks with leaders of German industry and visited the giant Daimlerchrysler AG car manufacturing factory in Stuttgart.

Improving the quality of Iranian products was a major theme of the talks between Mueller and Jahangiri.
