One can hardly deny the loneliness of a teenage girl whose mother is dead and whose father is in prison.

She is a lonely girl spending her best years with an old grandma. No one has ever heard her talk about her expectations or ambitions or complaints.

Taraneh keeps on studying at school and getting good grades. She helps her grandma and keeps on visiting her father in prison because she wants to feel that she has someone who cares for her.

Hardships have made her a strong and willful girl. A girl who wants to be independent, to prove her intellectual abilities to her friends and society, and to show that she is motivated and determined. She is alone in a society which is filled with corruption.

Yet, with no experience at living on her own, she learns about the consequences of divorce, untrustworthy friends, the problems of runaway girls, and the problem of carrying the child of an irresponsible father who denies what has happened between them.

A child will soon come into the world. A child who is not accepted by its father.

How could she ever deny the existence of an unborn child that is growing inside her? People advise her to get an abortion because it is against the society's customs to raise a child without a father. Yet, she still feels able and determined though society is against her. She feels responsible as a mother, no matter what society thinks about her and her child, no matter what others say and no matter that the child does not have a responsible father. It is her child so it has the right to live and grow. A mother should love her child.

She decides to keep her child despite the bitter confrontation with society. She truly enjoys being in control of her life and proving that as long as she lives, she is capable of standing up for her rights and achieving her goals.
