French Delegation, Mohajerani Discuss Dialogue Principles

TEHRAN -- Head of the International Center for Dialogue Among Civilizations Ataollah Mohajerani said here Saturday that the dialogue could be a basis for settlement of many international Issues, IRNA reported.

Speaking in a meeting with a French delegation Mohajerani underlined the prime importance of mutual understanding among states and stressed the need for utilization of the dialogue principles and existing opportunities to solve the differences on the international stage.

The French delegation, led by the Head of the West-Islam Institute Omar Tahir bin Ahmad, is in Tehran for talks with the Iranian officials on modalities of actively engaging in efforts on dialogue promotion.

In the meeting the two sides explored ways of boosting the Iran-France cooperation on the promotion of the idea among civilizations.

Both sides agreed that one of the fundamental principles of the dialogue is that they have to respect "the logic of the dialogue" which consists of mutual respect for each others' viewpoints and attitudes.

In the meeting, Mohajerani set forth a proposal on the holding of a seminar jointly by Iran and France, and said the meeting would aim to promote the dialogue among nations.

He went on to say that the dialogue meetings could provide appropriate grounds for world scholars and intellectuals to find out more effective measures to deal with the problems on the international stage.

Mohajerani said scholars, academics and intellectuals could take part in the event.

He underlined the tolerance and permissiveness as critical principles of the dialogue plan, championed by President Seyed Mohammad Khatami.

He described as "impossible" any progress in forging ahead international relations regardless of the role of dialogue.

French ex-ambassador to Tehran Pierre la France was also attending the meeting.

Bin Ahmad stressed the dialogue could contribute to efforts in improving international relations among states adding that the dialogue can help the human beings to achieve progress.

He noted that the dialogue among civilizations creates understanding among nations and plays a decisive role in the development of international cooperation among countries.
