TEHRAN - A moderate earthquake measuring 4.1 degrees on the Richter scale jolted south of Qazvin Province (130km northwest of Tehran) on Tuesday.

The Seismological Base of Tehran University reported that the temblor had occurred at 03:27 hours local time (23:57 GMT).

No casualty or damage has yet been reported.

Iran is one of the most quake-prone regions of the world that sits on some of the world's seismic fault lines.

Over 200 people were killed and hundreds injured in June when a strong quake measuring 6.0 degrees on the Richter scale hit vast areas in northern, central and western Iran.
