MUNICH -- Olympic and world triple jump champion Jonathan Edwards has received treatment on a bruised heel sustained in qualifying for the final at the European championships on Tuesday.

A British team spokeswoman said the 36-year-old should recover in time for Thursday's final in Munich.

"It does not seem to be a major cause for concern," the spokeswoman said. "He has seen a team doctor and should be okay."

The defending European champion, who won in Budapest four years ago, qualified with a leap of 16.99 meters, his only jump.

Fellow Briton Phillips Idowu produced the biggest jump in qualification by some margin, leaping to 17.54 meters, Reuters reported.

"I don't know, but maybe it could be a world's best for the qualifications," said a delighted Idowu. "I'm ready for the final."
