Material Loss at Quake-Hit Farms in Qazvin Amounts to 130bn Rials

QAZVIN -- Head of Qazvin Province Agricultural Jihad Department Nezam-Ali Daragi said here on Tuesday that besides the heavy human toll and cattle loss in last month's quake in southern Qazvin, a material loss of over 130 billion rials on farms, gardens, rural roads and hundreds of residences has been reported. Addressing a press conference, Daragi said, "The earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale in Qazvin Province inflicted heavy damages on 12,000 hectares of wheat plantations in Avaj district."

He added that in addition, 250 hectares of cherry and walnut orchards as well as vineyards were damaged and about 2.36 billion rials is required to restore the damaged farms and orchards.

He estimated the damages to roads and technical installations of the rural area at 24.594 billion rials and added that 55kms of asphalt layer is required to restore the roads.

"A 432-million-rial budget is required to repair a number of damaged rural industrial workshops affiliated to Qazvin Province Agricultural Jihad Department," he added. Daragi said, "A credit of 25 billion rials will also be required to put the cattle breeding farms into operation."

According to him, the total damage to urban water supply, administrative and state buildings as well as agricultural stores exceed 16 billion rials.
