EU Human Rights Team Discusses Women Rights, Religious Minorities

TEHRAN -- A five-member of the European Union Human Rights Commission delegation currently visiting Iran met here on Wednesday with Majlis representatives Mohammad Dadfar and Ebrahim Amini to discuss issues of human rights and religious minorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Responding to a question about the nature of the meeting, Amini said that the European delegation will provide a report on human rights conditions in Iran for the European Human Rights Commission.

The European delegation is very sensitive on issues such as banning tortures and non-discrimination among women and religious minorities in Iran and they contended that the women rights and religious minorities are not observed in Iran, he said.

For his part, Dadfar said the European delegation is seeking a panel discussion among representatives of the European Union, the government, Majlis and the non-governmental organizations dealing with human rights issues in Iran, IRNA reported.

The European delegation was very sensitive on the status of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said.
