My First Fasting Experience
On the 29th of Sha'aban I asked my mother if I could fast for the first time. My mother agreed and said that the next day she would arrange an iftar party.
My eyes were on the television. Suddenly I heard the announcement that the next day was the first of Ramazan. I was filled with joy.
Then I went to the mosque with my grandmother to pray. The prayer was really very long and we were very tired. When we came back home my mother had cooked special dishes. We had a very nice dinner that night. Then we had some rest and went to the shopping center. We bought different things we needed for the whole month of Ramazan.
We were so tired that we fell asleep easily. The next day, at about 4 o'clock in the morning, my mother woke me up. I was still sleepy but I stayed awake because it was my first day of fasting. I was very excited. I ate the different kinds of dishes. All of them were very tasty.
The next day, I went outside for the morning walk.
I saw beautiful flowers, gardens and butterflies.
I enjoyed these things for an hour. Then I came back home and played some games with my little brother. I had a fight with my brother, but suddenly my father came and stopped the fight. He told me that fasting not only means not eating or drinking anything, but it is also a time in which all bad things have to be stopped, like fighting and saying bad words.
Soon, at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I began to read the Holy Qoran, then I slept for an hour.
When I woke up, my mother was cooking for iftar.
She had arranged the iftar party as she had promised me.
I washed my face and began to help my mother cook. Soon some of my friends also came. I was very excited. I asked my mother who invited them. She said, "I arranged the party, so I called them and invited them to join us for iftar."
I was very happy that day. So the first day that I fasted ended happily. It was a day that I can never forget. Samira Fallah 16-year-old Tehran
