Kharrazi, Michel Stress Expansion of Bilateral Ties

BRUSSELS -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and his Belgian counterpart, Louis Michel, reviewed avenues to further bolster bilateral ties as well as the latest international developments here yesterday.

Expressing satisfaction with the current level of Tehran-Brussels bilateral cooperation, the two ministers stressed their countries' identical views on various international issues.

Both Kharrazi and Michel reiterated that their common viewpoints on these issues give an added boost to their overall cooperation and provide further impetus to the implementation of agreements already reached between the two countries.

They also called for more exchanges of visits between senior officials from Iran and Belgium, IRNA reported in a dispatch from Brussels.

During the meeting, Iran and Belgium agreed that final discussions for starting direct flights between Tehran and Brussels will be concluded shortly. The foreign ministers also called for facilitating visa procedures for businessmen on both sides.

The two ministers further underlined the need for formation of a working committee by their countries to take up the task of following up on the implementation of an agreement inked by the two countries labor ministries.

Meanwhile, Kharrazi said he welcomed Belgian companies investment and business activities -- specially those who made investments in the small and medium-size industries in Iran during recent years.

Both foreign ministers stressed greater bilateral cooperation at the international level in order to help bring peace and security to the world.

Turning to the Iraqi crisis, they emphasized the role of the United Nations Security Council in the settlement of the current critical situation in that country.

The Iranian foreign minister wound up his two-day visit to Brussels yesterday morning and arrived in Berlin later in the day for a brief visits with his german counterpart, Joschka Fischer and the Speaker of the German Parliament Wolfgang Thierse.

Kharrazi's talks with Fischer focused on the Middle East conflict and the Iraqi crisis.

The minister was slated to leave Berlin late last night for Paris.
