Arab diplomatic sources said on Monday that Saudi Arabia has opposed the Qatari foreign minister's visit to Riyadh.

Following the Saudi opposition, the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmad ibn Abdullah al-Mahmoud, traveled to Saudi Arabia to normalize ties.

In his unexpected one-day visit to Saudi Arabia, the Qatari official will meet and hold talks with some Saudi officials.

The problem in bilateral ties appeared over the performance of the Al-Jazeera Television.

Saudi Arabia has recalled its ambassador from Doha for "consultation over regional issues" and Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal did not participate in the recent foreign ministers meeting of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council held in Qatar.
