BEIRUT -- Iranian President's Envoy Ali Akbar Mohtashami on Tuesday delivered a message from President Mohammad Khatami to President Emile Lahoud.

In the meeting, Mohtashami exchanged views with the Lebanese president on the latest developments in the region, especially a possible U.S. military action against Iraq and its subsequent repercussions in the region.

The issue of Palestine and the Zionist regime's intensified military incursions into Palestinian territories as well as Ariel Sharon's abuse of the U.S. war on Iraq were the other topics discussed by President Lahoud and Mohtashami.

Mohtashami said that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports Lebanon in its campaign against the Zionist regime's expansionism.

President Lahoud and Mohtashami emphasized the need for solidarity of the Muslim and Arab World and reinforcement of tripartite alliance of Syria, Iran and Lebanon.

The Lebanese president said that Lebanon is ready to defend itself and is keen on bolstering Lebanese solidarity with Iran and Syria.

MP Hassan Qashqavi is also among Mohtashami's entourage. The Iranian delegation is expected to hold talks with Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri and foreign minister later in the day.

Meanwhile, Mohtashami visited Damascus on Monday and delivered a message from President Khatami to President Bashar al-Assad.
