DHAKA -- More than 100 people were missing after a river ferry carrying Muslim worshipers was hit by a late night storm, police and rescue workers in northern Bangladesh said Sunday.
An estimated 110 people were on board the boat when it was hit by the storm late Saturday in the tea-growing Province of Sylhet 280 kilometers northeast of the capital Dhaka, DPA reported.
Divers of the fire brigade recovered three drowned passengers from the Nakchini river near the town of Karimganj after the storm had subsided, reports said.
Raging winds blew away homes, uprooted trees and disrupted power in at least half a dozen villages in the province.
The search for the missing passengers continued, the police said on Sunday.
The worshipers were traveling to a religious shrine in the neighboring Kishoreganj district, the police said.
