Iran’s “Song of Sparrows” qualifies for Golden Globe Awards

TEHRAN -- Iran’s “The Song of Sparrows” along with 52 other foreign language films has qualified for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Jorge Camara announced on December 2.

Directed by Majid Majidi, “The Song of Sparrows” tells a bittersweet parable about the struggles of a family living in a rural area outside Tehran.
Representing Iran at the 81st Annual Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Films category, the film has received many accolades in Iranian and international events.
In early 2008, Reza Naji won the Silver Bear prize for best actor at the 58th annual Berlin International Film Festival for his role in “The Song of Sparrows.”
Majidi’s “The Children of Heaven” depicts the face of poverty in an Iranian family and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Films category at the Academy Awards in 1999.
After the Oscar, the Golden Globe is world’s most prestigious award to be presented in the Motion picture industry.
The nominations for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be announced on December 11, 2008 and the presentation ceremony will be held at the Beverly Hilton on January 11, 2009 with a live telecast airing on NBC.
