TEHRAN -- The city of Qazvin, birthplace of Mir-Emad, will be hosting Iran’s First International Calligraphy Biennial next year.

The decision was made at a session held in the Visual Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the Persian Service of Fars reported on Sunday.
The biennial was originally intended to be held as a national event but was broadened to international after calligraphy master Gholamhossein Amirkhani proposed the idea to Mahmud Shaluii.
Shaluii is director of the Visual Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and also director of the policymaking council of the biennial.
Attended by masters Amirkhani, Nasrollah Afjei and Keikhosro Khorush, and secretary of the program Mohammad-Hossein Shafiha, issues such as preparing the logo of biennial and publication of a book by the opening ceremony were discussed at the session.
Directors of the department of the Iranian Calligraphers Association in Tehran and Qazvin were also in attendance at the session.
Qazvin is the birthplace of Mir-Emad who was the titan of the nasta’liq script, a unique and ornate Iranian style of calligraphy.
