Iran seeks revenge against Egypt in FIVB World Grand Champions

OSAKA - Iran volleyball team will play Egypt in the FIVB Men’s World Grand Champions Cup in Osaka on Wednesday.

World number one Brazil is going to claim back-to-back titles and their third Grand Champions Cup in four editions. Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Japan and Poland are the other participating teams who stand in Brazil’s way.
Iran will have one eye on its Egyptian opponent after losing to them in the first round of 2010 FIVB World League qualification tournament in Cairo in September. Iran will face Brazil and Japan on Thursday and Saturday respectively. The team will also play Poland and Cuba in the following days.
The competition formula of the 2009 Men’s World Grand Champions Cup is the single Round-Robin system. Each team plays once against each of the 5 remaining teams. Points are accumulated during the whole tournament and the final standing is determined by the total points gained.
The 2009 Men’s World Grand Champions Cup will be held in Osaka and Nagoya, Japan, from November 18 to November 23, 2009.
The World Grand Champions Cup is a men’s and women’s volleyball competition. Created in 1993, it is an international tournament that is played the year after the Olympic Games
