ISFAHAN - Iran’s Zob Ahan made a good start in the 2011 AFC Champions League with a win over the UAE’S Emirates in Group D.

Last year’s runner-up defeated Emirates 2-1 at Fooladshahr Stadium in Isfahan on Wednesday.
Nabil Daoudi gave Emirates the upper hand in the 40th minute when he beat keeper Shahab Gordan with ease.
But Mohammad Hosseini brought Zob Ahan level with a header just before the interval.
In the second half, the Iranian side was dominant and kept control of the ball. Brazilian Igor Castro eventually scored the game-winning goal for Zob Ahan 10 minutes into the second half.
The visitors then began putting pressure on Zob Ahan but failed to take advantage of their chances.
Al-Rayyan of Qatar tied 1-1 with Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia at Doha’s Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in another Group D match on Wednesday.
Coach Mansour Ebrahimzadeh’s side deservedly made it to the final of the 2010 edition of the AFC Champions League after seeing off well-known clubs Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, Bunyodkor, and Pohang Steelers. But Zob Ahan lost to Seongnam Ilhwa of South Korea in the final in Tokyo
