TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani on Monday described the nuclear agreement between Tehran and six world powers as “the great political victory of the Iranian nation”.

Talking in a gathering of Iranian ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions abroad, Rouhani said this victory does not belong to his government or the Foreign Ministry rather it belongs to the “decent” and “great” Iranian nation.

The president also said the Foreign Ministry, by sticking to principles should present the “real face” of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the world through “logic and reasoning”.

The president also said “backing down from position has no place” in Iran’s foreign policy.

He added, “The world’s respect to our diplomats is respect to the grandeur of the Iranian nation and today the Foreign Ministry has special place in the heart of our nation.”

‘Nuclear agreement can serve as model to the world’

The president went on to say that the nuclear agreement can serve as a model for resolving international problems through dialogue.

“The experience of the JCPOA and (its) win-win approach, one by which (all) negotiating parties could feel success in the talks, is a model for resolving global problems,” Tasnim quoted Rouhani as saying.

“All these achievements have been reached in a dignified way and our nuclear team has always pursued and restored the (Iranian) nation’s rights proudly and firmly and through relying on legal and logical principles,” the president stated.

The nuclear deal, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), has been described as a historic event in the 21st century.

On Monday Abbas Araqchi, a senior nuclear negotiator, said the preliminary steps have started for implementation of the deal.

Rouhani said the implementation of the JCPOA has created a new move in foreign and economic policies and predicted that people will benefit from these achievements more than others. 

“We proceed with the JCPOA in line with the guidelines of the Supreme Leader and spare no efforts to serve nation,” he said, according to IRNA.
