TEHRAN – Tehran’s Book City Institute and the Beijing Foreign Studies University will jointly organize seminars on the Persian poet Sadi (C. 1213-1291) and Chinese philosopher Confucius (551-479 BC) next year.

Experts on Sadi and Confucius will gather in Tehran during April to discuss Sadi’s social thoughts along with teachings of Confucius, deputy director of the institute Ali-Asghar Mohammadkhani said in a press release on Wednesday.

The Beijing Foreign Studies University will host the second leg of the seminar in June.

“Practical philosophy of Sadi and Confucius, joint foundations of theoretical philosophy of Sadi and Confucius, China in the poetry of Sadi, joint teachings of Sadi and Confucius for man, as well as China in Persian culture and literature are among the topics to be discussed,” he added.

“Sadi and Confucius are the two main Iranian and Chinese luminaries whose teachings are full of useful advice. Sadi is the symbol of the Persian language and Confucius is the symbol of the Chinese language. Sadi’s Gulistan has been translated into Chinese several times,” Mohammadkhani asserted.

Confucius was China’s most famous teacher, philosopher and political theorist whose ideas have influenced the civilization of East Asia.

Sheikh Muslih od-Din Sadi Shirazi is one of the greatest figures of classical Persian literature, famous worldwide for his Bustan (The Orchard) and Gulistan (The Rose Garden).
