TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sent a message to Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Friday congratulating anniversary of Mexico’s independence.

“I sincerely congratulate your Excellency, the government and people of Mexico on the independence day of the country,” Rouhani wrote in his message.

He also said, “I hope we would witness increasing expansion of ties in various areas in light of mutual efforts of the two countries’ officials using existing opportunities.” 

On September 16, 1810, Mexico gained independence from Spain.
