Annual inflation hits 44.2% in year to late-January: CBI
TEHRAN – The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) said annual inflation in urban areas reached 44.2 percent in the 12 months to January 20, reflecting continued price pressures across goods and services.
The CBI said the consumer price index for urban households stood at 514.6 points in the 10th Iranian month of Dey (December 21, 2025-January 20, 2026), up 5.7 percent from the previous month and 54.9 percent higher than a year earlier, according to IRNA.
It said inflation in the 12 months to late-January, compared with the same period a year earlier, was 44.2 percent.
The price index for goods rose 9.6 percent month on month, increasing 75.7 percent year on year. Annual inflation for goods in the 12-month period reached 52.1 percent, the bank said.
Services prices rose 1.6 percent from the previous month and 36.5 percent from a year earlier, with 12-month inflation for services standing at 37 percent.
Among major groups, food and beverages prices rose 11 percent month on month in January, tobacco 11.3 percent, clothing and footwear 4.2 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels 1.2 percent, household goods and services 7.7 percent, health 2.0 percent, transport 5.4 percent, communications 9.0 percent, recreation and culture 3.1 percent, education 0.3 percent, restaurants and hotels 8.2 percent, and miscellaneous goods and services 3.4 percent, the central bank said.
