TEHRAN – Energy Ministry will inaugurate 243 power sector projects nationwide during the Ten-Day Dawn anniversary period, with total investment of about 550 trillion rials ($1.1 billion), a senior official at Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (Tavanir) said.

Abolfazl Asadi, Tavanir’s deputy for planning and economic affairs, said the projects aim to expand the national power grid and ease network constraints, according to state broadcaster IRIB.

He said the projects form part of the government’s latest performance report and focus on preventing generation bottlenecks, improving voltage levels and reducing overloads across the transmission and sub-transmission networks.

Asadi said construction has already begun on more than 130 critical projects, with over 300 trillion rials (about $600 million) allocated for their completion.

Despite financial constraints and challenges linked to sanctions, he said the power sector has made notable progress, adding that the 243 projects will increase transmission substation capacity by 4,385 megavolt-amperes and sub-transmission capacity by 3,328 megavolt-amperes, while adding 1,325 circuit kilometers of new transmission and sub-transmission lines.

He said the projects are expected to significantly improve grid performance and reduce bottlenecks ahead of next summer’s peak demand period.
