KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian magistrate court has charged a 14-year-old boy with the murder of a six-year-old girl, a news report said Sunday.

The boy, who was unnamed as he is under-aged, was charged with killing Nur Sakeela Ramli Choa in a lane just several hundred meters away from her father's food stall, Bernama news agency said.

Prosecuting officer Chin Su Song said the boy would be sent to a psychiatric hospital for observation. Magistrate Norshila Kamarudding fixed may 15 for a mention of the case pending a report from the hospital.

Nur Sakeela's Nude body was found in a drain by a passerby almost 12 hours after her family had reported her missing.

Her murder shocked the country and the case is the second since last week involving the killing of a young girl by a teenager.

Even if Nur Sakeela's murderer is convicted, he will likely be detained indefinitely rather than hanged as he was a juvenile when the crime was committed.
