Iran, Ukraine to Discuss Industrial Cooperation

TEHRAN -- Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami will hold talks with Ukrainian leaders on industrial cooperation, including in aircraft building, the Iranian Embassy in Kiev told ITAR-TASS on Saturday.

The Iranian president will visit Ukraine on October 15-16 and be accompanied by the delegation of industrialists, the embassy said.

Khatami will meet Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. The presidents of the two countries are expected to sign several agreements on the results of their meeting, IRNA reported.

The Iranian president will confer with Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Litvin and visit Kiev Taras Shevchenko National University, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Under one of the most comprehensive agreement signed by the two countries, Ukraine organized mass production of an-140 planes in the Iranian city of Isfahan. The first plane made a demonstration flight in February 2001 and carries out regular flights. In total, Ukraine has helped build up to 100 an-140 planes in Iran.
