TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- MP Iraj Nadimi said he believes that the establishment of a welfare and social security ministry would make government more efficient.

Nadimi told the Mehr News Agency that the establishment of a welfare and social security ministry would be welcome news because it would provide all Iranian social classes with equal social services.

There are currently several insurance, public assistance, and social service organizations, which are funded by the government at great cost, yet some parallel payments are made while some needy individuals in society do not receive any assistance, Nadimi added. Asked if the establishment of a welfare and social security ministry would result in the dissolution of another ministry like the Cooperatives Ministry, he said, "This has been proposed in article 18 of the bill on devising a comprehensive social welfare system, but the Majlis has not discussed this article yet and has not made any decision in this regard." He pointed out that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has agreed with the proposal to merge the Martyrs’ Foundation, the 15 of Khordad Foundation, and the Disabled War Veterans’ Foundation into one organization and added, "The establishment of the new ministry will also result in the merger of all insurance, public assistance, and social service organizations, including the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee."

He also said that the Majlis has decided to incorporate the Assistance Committee into the new welfare and social security ministry.
