TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Kuwait's Energy Minister Sheikh Ahmed Fahd al-Sabah arrived here Saturday morning to sign an agreement with Iranian officials to pipe water from Iran to Kuwait.

Al-Sabah, who is heading a ranking delegation in his one-day visit, is expected to meet Iran's Energy Minister Habibollah Bitaraf and sign the deal.

The project is estimated to cost 1.5 billion dollars and involves establishing a pipeline of 540 kilometers.

The pipeline will carry water from the Karkheh Dam in the southwestern province of Khuzestan at 330 kilometers to the farthest point on the bank of the Arvand river in Abadan, and will extend for another 210 kilometers toward the coast of Kuwait under the sea.

Iran's supply of water for the project will change in the years of abundant rainfalls and the years of drought.
