DUSHANBE (IRNA) – World Bank's Economic Affairs Expert in Tajikistan Utker Omarev here on Monday described as significant the role played by Iran, Russia, and some international monetary organizations, in stabilizing and strengthening Tajikistan's economy.

Presenting the World Bank's report on Tajikistan's economy at a press conference, Omarev said, "The construction of Tajikistan's Sangtudeh II and Raqoun power plants relying on Iranian and Russian capital depend on the atmosphere that the projects managers would provide, as well as lowering the risk for the investors."

According to Utker Omarev, the World Bank has advised Uzbekistan to spend greater efforts to lower the risk of making foreign investments in that country. He added, "Construction of power networks for transferring electricity abroad from Tajikistan, the establishment of a regional electricity market, and increasing this country's aluminum production can be among the positive results of pursuing that policy effectively."

Tajikistan's Sangtudeh I and Raqoun power stations will be constructed by Russia, and that country's Sangtudeh II Power Plant will be constructed by Iran.

The construction of the 220 megawatt Sangtudeh II Power Plant is scheduled to take around four years and the project's cost is estimated to be around 300 million dollars.
