Iran, China discuss bilateral ties, regional, intl. issues
Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's special envoy, Mohammad-Javad Ardeshir Larijani met with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing in Beijing.
During the meeting, Li and Larijani exchanged views on the negative impacts of unilateral policies in regional and international scenes.
Larijani said that he believes dictated and unilateral policies have led to a dangerous situation in the Middle East region.
The two officials also discussed human rights issues and Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
Li stressed that Iran's nuclear case should be settled peacefully and through diplomatic channels.
He said all sides should attempt to settle the issue peacefully, adding China would continue to cooperate with negotiating sides to find an appropriate solution to the issue.
The Chinese foreign minister has recently reiterated Iran's right to make use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Larijani arrived in Beijing Tuesday morning on a two-day visit to discuss issues of mutual interest with senior Chinese officials.
He is carrying a message from President Ahmadinejad. He was to deliver a speech at China's International Studies Institute on Wednesday.
China urges talks on Iran's nuclear dossier
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on Tuesday stressed the need for continued diplomacy to resolve Iran's nuclear case, saying China favors measures that would push forward efforts to restore peace to the world.
He said China was in favor of resolving Iran's nuclear case through talks just as it had insisted that the nuclear standoff with North Korea be resolved peacefully.
There is still room to resolve Iran's nuclear case within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a news conference in Beijing.
"China hopes all concerned parties to proceed with diplomatic efforts to resolve Iran's nuclear dispute and avoid provocative statements over the case."
The Chinese official further said that the Russian offer to carry out uranium enrichment for Iran on Russian soil is a good way to settle the issue and China supports negotiations between Tehran and Moscow.
