Iranian women to compete at Asian taekwondo tourney

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Iran will dispatch women's national taekwondo team to Bangkok, capital of Thailand, on April 18 to attend the Asian meet.

According to Iran's Taekwondo Federation (ITF), the Thai capital will host the event from April 21-23.

The weighing and draw ceremonies are held on April 20.

Each country is allowed to pit maximum six players and just the host reserves the right to have eight representatives.

Nazila Nezami, Sara Khosh-Jamal, Zeinab Heidari, Nassim Shazdeh-Ahmadi, Mahruz Saii, and Afsaneh Sheikhi will represent Iran in the first, second, third, fourth, seventh, and eighth weight categories respectively.

The ITF vice-president told IRNA Monday taekwondo players arematch-fit.

Elaheh Arab-Ameri added the team has trained well under South Korean manager Dung Sun-Sheng, making good technical progress when compared to their skills in the previous year.
