TEHRAN -- Deputy Secretary General of the National Confidence Party Rasul Montajabnia said on Wednesday that his party will make efforts to form coalition with other reformist parties in the run-up to the upcoming city council and Assembly of Experts elections.

“But at this juncture we would like to work independently,” he told the Mehr News Agency.

The Assembly of Combatant Clerics is the closest party to the NCP, he stated, adding that these two political groups are more interested in cooperating with each other than other parties or groups.

“The NCP has not so far done any specific move to form a coalition, but some reformist political figures and parties have lobbied with NCP Secretary General Mehdi Karrubi (on forming a coalition).”

He noted that his party is keen to conduct preliminary measures at this point in time.
