TEHRAN (Fars News Agency) -- Chairman of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, in a meeting with the head of the Permanent Committee of Asian Political Parties International Convention, criticized South Korea's vote against Iran at the recent meeting of the Board of Governors.

During the meeting, Alaeddin Borujerdi noted Iran and Korea's good relations and viewed the role of the two parliaments crucial in the development of the existing ties.

He further stressed the necessity for enhanced parliamentary relations in order for the two sides to deepen mutual cooperation.

Pointing to the active trend of democracy in Iran and operation of tens of parties with different political tastes and drives within the framework of the House of Parties, he reminded that existence of different parties plays a remarkable role in the establishment and expansion of democracy in any given country.

Borujerdi complained about South Korea's vote against Iran at a recent meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors and said that Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly expected South Korean officials to have acted more appropriately, given the two countries' desirable relations. Referring to Iran's nuclear issue, he said that article four of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitles all the member states to peaceful use of nuclear energy, "that's why the Iranian parliament stresses restoration of the country's indubitable right." Concerning Iraq and Afghanistan, the MP stressed that Iran favors restoration of peace and stability in its neighboring states, "and we believe that the governments of the said countries must be assisted to realize this goal."

For his part, deputy chairman of the Permanent Committee of Asian Political Parties International Convention and chairman of the foreign committee of South Korea's ruling party expressed pleasure with his visit to the Islamic Republic and his talks with the Iranian officials, and stressed that the two countries have always enjoyed desirable relations on the basis of mutual respect.

He further noted that his country is planning development of political, economic and trade ties with Iran.

Yong also admired existence and activity of various political parties in Iran and described it as a guarantee of continued political development and growth in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"That out of 250 political parties in Asia, 150 operate in Iran is truly noteworthy," he concluded.

At the end of the meeting, Borujerdi extended an invitation to Yong to pay a visit to Iran.
