Nearly 100 People Sick in Vietnam After Eating Rice Cakes

HANOI, Vietnam Nearly 100 people, mostly children, came down with food poisoning after eating rice cakes at a shop that opened two days earlier, a local official said Monday. Forty were hospitalized at the Thai Nguyen provincial general hospital in northern Vietnam on Saturday, the official said. All had been released by Sunday. Police were investigating the cause of the incident.

Food poisoning is common in Vietnam, where pesticides often are used to protect vegetables. (AP)
