TEHRAN (PIN) – Zagros Petrochemical Complex had so far produced more than 404 thousand tons of methanol, said the complex head Sunday.

“Of the product yielded since last March, some 3,517 tons was exported,” added Ali Estakhri.
In addition to its exports, the complex had supplied domestic downstream companies with 10,572 tons of methanol, the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) quoted the official as saying.
According to Estakhri, the export-bound cargo of the complex, valued at over 90 million dollars, was shipped through Jetty No. 5 and two packages weighing 17 thousand tons had been recently exported via Jetty No. 4.
He added the complex’s products had been exported mainly to China, India, Far Eastern states including South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, and European countries such as Spain, Italy, and Britain.
The second unit of the complex has been pre-commissioned at Pars Special Economic Energy Zone.
The unit will be ready to receive feed for production of methanol as of March 2008. When the second unit becomes operational, it will produce 1.65 million tons of pure methanol per annum and the capacity of Zagros Petrochemical Complex will increase twofold, hitting 3.3 million tons per year.
Petrochemical exports in the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2007 to March 20, 2008) will soar to 21 million tons in terms of weight, fetching the country 91 trillion rials (9.8 billion dollars).
According to the forecast, the sector also earns about 37 trillion rials (some 4 billion dollars) within the period by injecting petrochemical products into domestic market.
Based on the National Petrochemical Company’s statistics, 13 petrochemical complexes will be inaugurated by next March, resulting in an 18 million ton increase in the country’s production capacity.
Iran earned 3.238 billion dollars by injecting petrochemical products into domestic and foreign markets in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year.
The figure indicated a 30 percent rise in comparison with that of corresponding period in the previous year.
