TEHRAN -- Iranian musician Nader Mashayekhi is to conduct a concert performance at the Wien Modern Music Festival in Vienna on November 20.

“I have composed the piece entitled ‘Ishango bone’ for the violin, alto violin, and cello and it will be performed by foreign musicians,” he told Mehr News Agency.
The Ishango bone, which dates back to the Upper Paleolithic era is a dark brown length of bone discovered in Africa. It was first thought to be a tally stick, but some scientists have suggested that the groupings of notches represent a mathematical theory that goes beyond mere counting.
On choosing the name “Ishango bone” for his musical composition, Mashayekhi remarked that the notches on the bone indicate that man was familiar with prime numbers in primitive times, “so I decided to base my work on prime numbers,” he added.
He went on to say, “The biopic ‘To Be or Not to Be’ made by Dutch filmmaker Frank Scheffer featuring my life and artistic pursuits will also be screened during the event.”
This year’s Wien Modern film focus has been dedicated to Frank Scheffer, who filmed Frank Zappa, Luciano Berio and John Cage, among others.
Eighty-two different events including films, dance sequences and lectures are to take place in 16 locations throughout the city of Vienna. The gala will continue until December 1
